Celebrate National Poetry Month with Fort Bend County Libraries! 

  • Walking In Verse: George Memorial Library, Saturday, April 11, 12-3 pm - In collaboration with The Live Oak Playhouse (TLOP), Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) is bringing to you an immersive, interactive experience with poetry! Join us on a stroll around George Memorial Library with cast members bringing to life iconic poets of the past and present, such as William Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Maya Angelou, and more.  Even Mother Goose will put in an appearance!
     
  • Fresh Ink Poetry Slam: George Memorial Library, April 25, 1 - 4 pm -  Share your voice at our Fresh Ink Poetry Slam! Poets ages 13+ are invited to perform original work inspired by this year’s theme, “Community Voices.” Explore belonging, identity, shared spaces, resilience, and the people or moments that shape us. Open to teens (13–17) and adults (18+), all experience levels welcome — first-time poets encouraged! Awards include: Youth Voice (Teen Division), Artistry in Language (Adult Division), and Community Choice Award (Audience Vote).
     
  • Teen Poetry Workshop: University Branch, Wednesday, April 29, 5-6 pm - Try some fun poetry formats including blackout poetry, shape poetry, and found poetry. For teens in grades 9-12.  No registration required.
     
  • Poetry Month Contest: Fulshear Branch, April 1-30 - Stop by the Adult Reference Desk in the month of April to submit your very own poem. Voting will take place on the Fulshear Branch Library's Facebook page as in the library from May 1-8. The top three poem winners will receive a prize! Contact the Fulshear Branch Adult Services team for more details.
