February 2026
Fort Bend County Libraries, in partnership with the Texas Center for the Book and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), invites Texans of all ages to participate in the statewide Texas America250 Reading Challenge, which launched January 1 and continues through the end of the year.
From January 1 to December 31, 2026, all Texans are invited to log 2,500 minutes (41.6 hours) of reading, state parks visits, and/or service activity as part of the national America250 America Gives initiative, in honor of our nation’s 250th anniversary.
Participants can register and log books/reading time, as well as log state park visits using Beanstack: Beanstack: Reading Challenges and Personalized Recommendations. Participants may also register and log books/reading time by downloading the free Beanstack Tracker app to their mobile device from the Apple App or Google Play stores. Upon completion of the Reading Challenge, you can come to your library and receive a special certificate signed by Governor Greg Abbott.
“We’re excited to join Texans across the state in reading, volunteering, and exploring our beautiful Texas State Parks as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence,” said Library Director, Roosevelt Weeks. “Fort Bend County Libraries is proud to support and inspire our community in celebrating and discovering our nation’s history through this special Reading Challenge.”
Participants can log their time:
- Reading books and/or listening to audiobooks. The Texas Center for the Book especially encourages reading about Texas and American history, as well as Texas and American nature, wildlife and space exploration topics.
- Attending library story times or other library events.
- Volunteering in their local communities.
- Visiting a Texas State Park.
