November 2020
Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) will slowly begin the process of re-opening buildings on Thu, Nov 5, 2020. Phase 2 of the re-opening plan involves opening four libraries throughout the county – George Memorial Library in Richmond, Cinco Ranch Branch Library in Katy, Missouri City Branch Library, and Sienna Branch Library – for Grab-and-Go services only. We have a gradual re-opening plan for other Fort Bend County libraries.
To reduce the possibility of exposure, patrons are required to conduct library business and exit the premises in a timely manner. The Books & More Curbside Pick-Up service will continue to be available at ALL locations. Visitors are encouraged to continue using contact-free options whenever possible.

Other safety precautions during Phase 2 Grab-and-Go include the following:
- Computers will be spaced apart so that social distancing is observed. Computer sessions will be limited to one 2-hour session per day, and each station will be cleaned on a set schedule throughout the day. Children/patrons will not be able to wait in the library while someone else uses a computer.

Keeping community health and safety in mind, FBCL staff will continue to take extensive precautions to ensure a safe and germ-free environment for everyone, including checking staff temperatures upon their arrival at the building, wearing masks, washing hands, disinfecting hard surfaces and workstations, and quarantining returned materials.
Books, mobile WiFi hotspots, Launchpads, and Interlibrary-loan materials should be returned in the outside book drop. The health and safety of the community is our priority. By restricting computer use to one 2-hour session per day, we are limiting the amount of contact users have with each other and with staff so that we are able to provide a safe environment for everyone and so that as many people as possible have equal access to the computers. Computers are sanitized on a set schedule. Patrons are encouraged to sanitize their hands before/after using computers.

All Libraries
Our safety precautions require that we allow returned materials, including hotspots and Launchpads, to sit untouched before checking them in. You will not be charged an overdue fine for this period. It may take up to three (3) business days for items to be removed from your account.
All staff members are screened for symptoms and have their temperature taken prior to entering the building daily. All staff are required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing from one another and from the public. Acrylic barriers have been installed at the Circulation desks. Staff will sanitize their hands after each interaction with a customer’s materials. We are sanitizing common areas and common high-touch surfaces (doors, light switches, etc.). All returned items are sitting untouched before staff check them in or handle the materials. We have instituted contact-free curbside service for the safety of our patrons and staff. This method ensures that proper social distancing can be observed.
Fort Bend County Libraries has planned a gradual reopening approach so that all measures can be in place in order to protect the safety of the community and staff. No date has been set for the re-opening of other Fort Bend County libraries, but we will continue to communicate changes as they occur.
