Description
Fort Bend County Libraries invites adult readers to disengage this summer from the stress of everyday life and work, social media and television, and adulting in general and stop by the library to relax during a designated hour of silent reading, free of distractions and responsibilities, with live music adding ambiance to the soothing experience.
This series of silent reading parties, “Wandering Words: An Exploration of Stories Through Music, Art, & Movement,” will take place in June and July at George Memorial Library.
Each month, readers are invited to bring a book to read to themselves. Live, curated pop rock, indie, folk, and acoustic music by Garage Arts Project – supporting the theme of the month -- will play in the background. At the end of the first hour, readers will have an opportunity to talk about their reading choices and how they relate to the theme. The event will culminate with a short finale by the featured performing artist.
Similar to a book club, silent reading parties provide an opportunity for like-minded people to socialize – if they wish -- and connect over their books as icebreakers. Silent reading parties also hold individuals -- who like to read but never seem to find the time -- accountable for taking a break from their busy lives and committing to an hour of reading.
The theme for June is “Love and Betrayal” or “New Beginnings.” The series will continue on July 27, with the theme of “Independence.”
Sponsored by the Friends of George Memorial Library, this adults-only event is free and open to the public.
