Description

This lecture will introduce you to some amazing African American slaves that defied the odds and escaped to freedom. Their ingenious plans were fraught with risk and danger. Learn how Robert Smalls stole a Confederate steamer right out of the Charleston harbor and how Henry “Box” Brown mailed himself to abolitionists in the north. The story of Harriet Jacobs will also be discussed along with the harrowing escape of Ellen and William Craft. Their courageous stories will inspire you.
