Program Description

Description

Celebrating 75 years of history in 2016, the Houston Youth Symphony is one of the largest and oldest continuously operating youth orchestras in the United States. Today, approximately 650 young musicians between the ages of seven and 19 come from across the greater Houston area to audition for one of Houston Youth Symphony’s five orchestras. The Coda Music Program brings graduated, intensive after-school instruction to third, fourth and fifth grade students in select Houston ISD and Fort Bend ISD elementary schools. Current participating schools are Clemente Martinez, Jefferson, Looscan, and Sherman Elementary Schools in HISD, and E.A. Jones and Hunters Glen Elementary Schools in FBISD. Using group instruction to build community and social transformation through string ensemble and performance opportunities, the program meets twice a week on each campus after school

Join us for a festive open house featuring holiday music and refreshments! The highlight of the afternoon will be a performance by a group of violinists from the Coda playing some holiday tunes from 1:00-1:20 pm. The performance will include:

- Jolly Old St. Nicholas

- Bells upon Bells

- Feliz Navidad
