Program Description

Description

Take a journey through the world of art along with the volunteers from Unite and Inspire, in collaboration with Fort Bend County Libraries! This art series covers the timeless creativity within impressionism, post impressionism, and pop art.  Get an in-depth history lesson with experts—then try your hand at creating your own masterpiece! You will be provided with canvas, acrylic paint, and brushes to create your own painting in the class, and then take it home with you.  Please wear clothes you will be comfortable getting paint upon.

Pop Art was an art movement that began in 1950s and 1960s, and is known for its use of imagery from popular culture. It was a rebellion against elite art and one of the first art movements to blur the divide between commercial and fine arts. It is characterized by bold, simple and everyday imagery and the artists use vibrant block colors. We are painting American painter Andy Warhol's "Campbell's Soup Cans" 1962.

Registration is required—limited to 12 seats.

This program is for students in grades 9-12.

This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the George Memorial Library.
